What is identity?

According to the dictionary, identity is the "authenticity of a person ...; complete agreement with what it is. "

But is that true at all? Do I always feel like a unit? Am I not sometimes contradicting myself? Am I a fake? When am I really me? Who am I? Am I the sum of my parts or am I divided?

Isn't identity just a construct that I can form again and again?
